Car accidents occur everyday across the United States leaving victims to suffer from a variety of injuries.

Among them are leg injuries which are often debilitating as the legs support one’s body. Injuries include:

Bursitis

This is a condition that occurs when the cushion-like sacs (called bursae) that are responsible for padding the knee bones, muscles, and tendons become inflamed. When this happens, victims will likely have problems moving the knee joint along with pain or swelling.

ACL Injury

The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) connects the femur to the tibia, and it maintains flexibility as well as stability for the knee joint. An injury to the ACL is very painful and may cause weakness, swelling, or an audible popping sound in the joints. Treatment may include surgery and/or physical therapy.

Broken Bones

All of the leg bones are at risk for breaking during a car accident. If a break occurs, victims may need surgery to repair the bone or to implant screws or rods. Symptoms of a broken leg include pain, inability to stand, swelling, and protruding bone fragments.

Torn Meniscus

This is a tear of the semi circular shock absorbing cartilage found in the knee joint, and it typically results from a twisting or rotating motion. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and stiffness, and depending on the severity, treatment may include both surgery and physical therapy.
