Order Preventing Enforcement of Deepwater Oil Drilling Moratorium
Federal judge in Louisiana declared that the federal government did not adhere to the proper procedure when it released a moratorium on offshore oil drilling at depths higher than 500 feet.

Complaint:

Transocean Holdings LLC Petition for Limitation of Liability
Transocean owns and operates the offshore oil rig that exploded and leaks oil in the Gulf of Mexico and has asked the federal court in Houston to restrict its liability for the damages which are caused by the explosion and spill.

Abbott v. Salazar
The former BP contractor filed a case accusing that BP was unable to verify if the systems on its Atlantis oil rig were functioning well. The plaintiff said that poor conditions on the rig could result to worst disaster than the Gulf Oil Spill.

Complaint:

Sierra Club, Inc. v. Salazar
Sierra Club with some environmental groups filed lawsuit against the Secretary of the Interior claiming that the federal government unlawfully permitted BP to drill for more than 5,000 feet of water without determining the blow-out and worst-case oil spill analysis. The plaintiffs asserted that the exemption has led to the Gulf Oil Spill.
