Food Poisoning Prevention: Eating in Restaurants

Protecting yourself from food poisoning or foodborne disease through making smart decisions about where you eat.

Restaurants go through inspection conducted by the local health agency to make sure that they are clean and have sufficient kitchen equipment. You can find out how a restaurant did on the latest inspection and utilize the score which is posted in the restaurant as a guide. Knowing if the restaurant has taught its staff about the principles of food safety is useful.

You can make your order on particular food when you eat out to safeguard yourself from food poisoning. For instance, when you order hamburger, instruct that it should be cooked with 160 degrees Fahrenheit or its 78  degrees centigrade and make sure that it is not pink in the middle part.

If you are served with meat or chicken that has not been thoroughly cooked, you can return it to the kitchen for further cooking. You may also request for another clean plate and or hamburgers, a new bun.
