Car Accident Dos and Don’ts

It is always important to follow the “do’s and don’ts” to help you protect your right to a legal remedy for harm suffered. You must familiarize with the list whether it is you or your loved one that might be the affected party.

You should always prepare yourself. You can do this by making sure that you have this pamphlet with you so that you will always have something to resort to whenever you need it.

THE DOs

DO seek assistance from physicians for medical needs.

DO call the police when it is necessary.

DO provide cooperation especially when it is needed in order to have order and peace.

DO get the plate numbers and the license of drivers of relevant parties.

DO get the name and address of the owner of animals if the injuries be caused by animals.

DO put into writing the names of the people who might be witnesses for the case.

DO contact the health insurance companies and other agencies that might be necessary to your case.

DO take pieces of evidence such as photographs of the following:

  • The scene of the accident, from all angles.
  • The surrounding area.
  • The product or animal that caused your injuries.
  • Your injuries.
  • Any property damage.

DO have the initiative to contact your attorney so you can be helped.

THE DON’Ts

DON’T move your vehicle to its place right after the accident unless there is a law requiring you to do so.

DON’T make yourself subject to further inquiry in the same area. This may not be safe for you.

DON’T leave the scene of an accident until the police tell you it is okay to do so.

DON’T anything that may be used as potential evidence in the future. This may include things such as stained clothes and the like.

DON’T stay or remain in the area after an accident. Even if you are one of the victims, it is also part of your duty to keep yourself safe and away from further injury.

DON’T engage or try to make conversations with anyone about the accident. Don’t even apologize because doing so might imply that you have the liability.

DON’T agree to settlement terms without contacting your attorney. It is your attorney who is of best knowledge to know if it will be fair to you.
